Behind the Scenes: Alamat ng Bundok Kanlaon

This is a little sneak peek at how to basically edit audio - ironically, it entails a lot of sight too. Sometimes the sounds don't match so you have to watch out for the exact point on the soundwave. Removing too much air whether environmental or the person's exhalation is another one that entails a lot of staring. Layering sounds is tough when qualities dont match. And especially considering that it has been a long time since I last did this. It was really good that Kitch and Megan sent me so many sound effects and that the whole group cooperated on those five takes.

Comic book making = ANALAYSIS PARALYSIS

Here are some pictures detailing my hurried analysis paralysis for my comic book....

My spatial understanding needed a mini prototype... I honestly had too much time thinking about this... I was too confused.

Apparently, I forgot about the two fish or are those the silhouettes of Ina and Ama?
I don't know too...

deleted scenes...

I honestly worked through the story frame by frame. I intentionally did the drawing before the actual story so I could just show actions. Had I done this project before my exams, it would have been more polished. The physical character study I did were lost somewhere. Anyway, despite the analysis paralysis, I really enjoyed imagining scenes. There were originally 20 pages but I found a scribble on my notebook that said that the limit is lower. I would love to turn Philippine epics into graphic novels after I have more practice drawing and if such epics are alright to be adapted into visual imagery. I don't think it would be respectful to turn Berinareu into a graphic novel since it is that sacred to them. Even writing the title makes me feel guilty already. But making a comic book is a really goor exercise for a person's imagination regardless if you can successfully translate your thoughts into visual imagery.

Teka muna part 2

Because we all suddenly become frugal creatures in the middle of the week.... Goodbye allowance! Hello half-rice!

Seonomon Rides MRT

Seonomon, a shaman from Lengkuos (Lagei Lengkous), is one of the main characters of Berinareu, a Tirurai epic. In the said epic, the leader of Tirurai ethnolinguistic group or tribe should be followed, obeyed, and feared (Seonomon,Kuyugon, and Lalagen resprectively). He is one of the two (the other being Seangkaien) people assigned to lead the Tirurai people in the journey to heaven. He is a shaman, an empowered human being who was also in charge of religous matters as well as healing. In my understanding, he is an example of a classic Filipino leader who holds authority in many areas of his community may it be safety, religion, leadership, and others.  Below is a short narration of what would it be like for him if he is instantly put in MRT.

Seonomon is waken up by the sudden stop of the train. His thoughts confuse him. Why is the land stopping? What level of heaven is this? He looks at other passengers who stare at him intently. The trees reflecting the stars, I can almost touch them. However, my people seem different. The land we are standing on is not ascending. It does not even feel like land. Have we been swallowed by an enchanted serpent? Some of the people use their shields to create wind yet the warmth of the serpent prevails. Will hey hear me if I speak? Their ears seem to be infected by a thin ropes of madness. The train moves as the announcement is being played. Why is Fulu-fulu speaking in  a different manner? Is she swallowed by the serpent too? The serpent is moving again. Perhaps she does this to protect us. He looks out the window. The skin of the serpent changes appearance every second. The MRT stops again. All Tirurai people must go inside the serpent Fulu-fulu has sent. Seonomon alights the train and shouts out to all the people to go inside. He climbs up a stair and hits one of the large clocks to reach out to more people. He doesn't notice that the train is already moving. He waits for a few more minutes until the number of people have lessened.  Worriedly, he runs to the railway as he sees the serpent is gone. He shouts to the people on the platform who at the same time panics and screams for him to get off the rail tracks. Seonomon mistakes this as a cry for victory but eventually dies after the next train hits him.

Alamat ng Bundok Kanlaon

This is the recording of our group's Alamat ng Bundok Kanlaon radio drama.

Backstory:

This project was so tiring for my eyes and ears but I still enjoyed it. It has been years since I last edited an audio piece and this project reminded me that if all jobs paid the same, I'd be editing audio.

The quality of the recording was not very good since we recorded in the classroom right after ILC rejected us. Apparently, we need to submit a letter days before and my group agreed that we wouldn't have made a letter had we known the need for it. Can you imagine the hassle?  So after we were rejected, we went back to NCAS 306. This was after a short Fil21 class. My microphone isn't built for recording and I bought it mainly for family or tutorial video calls.

Anyway, there was too much air and we were very awkward during the recording process. I recognize the really weird inconsistent audio levels. It was really difficult for me to balance everything. The group members sent me sound effects later that day and this is how it turns out. Generally, Kanlaon group members were really cooperative.

*(I'll upload a behind the scenes for this and all the other activities if I find all my drafts.)*

Crowdsourced Literature

I've been observing anything that has letters on it since I started reading. I wasn't very fond of novels but my attention was always drawn to letters already in my surroundings. Until now, I still read all the bulletin boards I pass by and every advertisement that catches my eyes. Since I started studying in UPLB I have found a number of interesting vandals - they're the first thing I look for in a classroom. I literally pass by every chair that has scribbles or drawings and I photograph those that interest me or those that have look noticeable. I guess those are crowd-sourced literature too.  I'll probably upload them here too if I find time to edit.

Anyway, here is my entry:

This is one of my riddles.
